Drupal to Hugo
I originally registered this domain, paulslinuxbox.net back on 19 February 2004. Since then there have been countless revisions from a static HTML site to a homegrown CMS, then to WordPress and five versions of Drupal. Now, 20 years later, I’m going back to my roots. There are a number of reasons that lead me to making this decision with the biggest two being that I no longer do web development, and that I don’t have time to maintain a CMS.
In the last few years I really began to embrace Markdown and now all my notes are in Markdown because I find it easier and faster than using something like Evernote, OneNote, or HTML. As a result my workflow for writing has changed dramatically and with the rise of new and improvements in technologies, such as Markdown, Hugo, Pelican, Jekyll, etc., moving to something like hugo makes sense. I hope that this change will allow me to update more frequently.
The structure will change and instead of keeping the URL as it was for all entries: https://www.paulslinuxbox.net/articles/, I will adopt the schema of articles/YYYY/MM/DD/{{title}}
As of this writing, I have pulled over all the articles from Drupal and will begin the process of converting them to Markdown files. Some of the posts date way back to 2007, and will still be available but obviously horribly out of date. There are some irrelevant articles that will be moved to other sites. However, for articles that are relating to programming, will remain here.
- paulslinuxbox.net – Will retain almost all articles, but after today will only focus on Linux, system administration, DevOps, GitOps, etc.
- paulusworld.com – Was registered on 30 July 2008 as a place to hold content written about my hobbies and interests such as travel, photography techniques, privacy issues/concerns, etc.
